Opening September & New Procedures

Dear Parents/Carers,

As you are no doubt aware, the government released guidance at the end of last week sharing their plans for all children to attend school on a full-time basis as of September 2020. Yesterday you received a letter from John Camp, our Trust Lead, outlining the Trust’s position.

I would like to now share with you what this will look like specifically at Horn Park. Firstly, we would like to say how pleased we are that all children can now return to full time schooling. The limitations that have been put on us have been determined by the government and we are delighted to know that whilst the September return will come with changes, it is a return for all of our children.

In order to keep our schools as safe as possible, there are a hierarchy of measures that will we will continue to follow:

• anyone who is ill must stay at home

• robust hand and respiratory hygiene

• enhanced cleaning arrangements

• active engagement with NHS Test and Trace

• consideration of how to reduce contact and minimise mixing where possible.

The first four steps are straight forward and are musts, the fifth point is where we as a school have had to consider what further adaptions need to be made to make this possible. The following arrangements are built on those that we have already had in place throughout the pandemic and will enable us to reduce mixing where possible:

• Year group groups will become bubbles, and not mix

• Large events, such as assemblies, choir, fayres etc will not take place

• No school trips involving public transport

• A staggered start and end time, for specific year groups

• Clear entry and exit routes for parents

• Only one parent/carer to drop off or collect children

• No one other than staff or children allowed to enter the building unless previously arranged and fully risk assessed.

In order to facilitate the above and ensure that teachers receive their mandatory preparation, planning and assessment time we need to make changes to our school week. These changes will not impact on the amount of learning time on offer to our children.

As well as changes to start and end times, lunch times will be shortened and all children from reception to year 6 will finish school between 1.00pm -1.30pm on Fridays. Afternoon nursery will run as per usual on a Friday.

We are currently liaising with Alpha Club to explore how we can safely offer wrap around care for those parents who may need this.

We understand that this period has brought uncertainties and challenges to us all. For some the mandatory return for all children will come as a blessing and for others it will raise fears.

We would like to take this opportunity to remind you that our school has remained open throughout this pandemic, staff have received training and we have developed well-rehearsed risk assessments and procedures.

We will be here to support all children to return in September and ensure they receive their full educational entitlement.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the whole staff team at Horn Park. They have worked tirelessly throughout this period to ensure school remains open, our children receive a quality remote education and also offer support to all our families.

Further details of plans for September will follow shortly.
