Compass Weekly Updates

Last week, Horn Park choir had the fantastic opportunity to perform at the London Youth Games which took place at Borough Village in Crystal Palace Park. Alongside them were other schools from around London who performed several acts from ballet to freestyle break dancing! The children were inspired by the other performances they watched and had the opportunity to make friends and share in their passion for performing. They also enjoyed watching schools from other boroughs in London participate in different competitive sports, leading children to feel motivated not only to want to come back and perform next year but also to be involved in the sporting side of London Youth Games.

Our Deansfield Chamber Choir also had an amazing day last Wednesday, representing Deansfield at the world-famous International Eisteddfod in Llangollen, Wales. Top choirs from all over the world have been coming to compete since 1947. This was Deansfield’s fourth visit, and the standard was especially high this year. We competed against choirs from China, USA, Canada, Poland, Wales and England. Deansfield’s performance of ‘Lightning!’ was electrifying and very captivating – they even made the audience laugh! Their final performance of ‘Can you hear me?’, which included signing, was particularly moving. Deansfield was the youngest choir by far, which was acknowledged by the international panel of adjudicators. They were awarded 4th place out of a field of 12 amazing choirs, with a mark of 84.7%. The winning choir was from Bangor in Wales and they were given 86% – so you can see how close the results were. Please watch the video at to see how brilliantly our children sang
