World Book Day 7th March

As part of our World Book Day celebration this year, we are very excited to have not one, but two authors visiting our school. On Monday 4th March, children in Key Stage 2 will be meeting Karen McCombie and some children will be involved in workshops

Karen is the author of a range of titles for primary school students including the popular, You, Me and Thing series, the ’Indie Kidd’ books and her new recent book ‘Catching Falling Stars’. Karen will talk to the students about writing books, their own writing and celebrate the joy of reading with them. This will support the literacy work that we do in school and we hope it will prove a stimulating experience for the students.

Afterwards, they will have the opportunity to purchase one of Karen’s books and have it dedicated to them and signed by her!

A book sale will be held on the day where books will be sold at a discounted price of either £5 or £6.
If your child would like to purchase a book and have it signed by Karen, please ensure that they are sent to school on the day with the money in an envelope.

All week, we will be celebrating reading and on World Book Day itself, Thursday 7th March, we will be dressing up as our favourite characters. This year, there will be a prize for the most original, unique and impressive costume. There will be a Upper KS2 and a Lower KS2 winner who will win a free singed copy of one of Karen’s books!

On Thursday 7th March, children in Key Stage 1 will be meeting Seniha Slowinski and author of Rocky Rocks.

Seniha will be joined with her reading companion Rocky who is very excited to share the story based on him and to show the children some interesting tricks he has been practising.
On the day, children will have the opportunity to purchase one of the books and have it dedicated to them and signed by her!
Children will have the opportunity to receive a signed copy of the book for just £5!
As the books will be signed by Rocky himself, we will need to pre-order them. If you would like to purchase a book, please fill out the form (Letter attached), enclose £5 within an envelope labelled with your child's name on it and hand it in to the school by Friday 15th February.
